I had guide trips every day in April, and despite some weather challenges, the fish were biting well. Some days whjmere better than others and the bite was changing daily. The heavy rains have made the water muddy which made it a bit challenging. I expect the water to clear up soon and the spawn will be in full effect. May will be a great time to catch some fish on the Chesapeake Bay. I have a few dates left in May (only 2) and I have 4 dates left in June. Contact me if you would like to schedule a trip!

Spring time on the Upper Chesapeake Bay is one of my favorite times to fish. The fish are active and in predictable areas. With all the rain and muddy water we had last year it really has made the fish hard to locate and bite...with that being said the bass of the Chesapeake Bay haven't seen too many baits and lures and I expect this year to be an awesome bite on the Bay!
I have only a date or two left in April and May is getting filled up as well. If you are interested in learning more about the Chesapeake Bay and are interested in booking a guided bass trip send me an email and let me know what dates you have in mind! The Fall is upon us and that means the bite should start to get real good on the Chesapeake Bay! We had a lot of rain and flooding this past summer and that has changed the Chesapeake Bay to some degree. The muddy water has made fishing a bit more difficult. The fishing pressure hasn't been too hard on the fish the last few months due to the fact that it was difficult to find them! It has been a tough late summer but things are looking up! Reaction baits and top water is the theme for the next few months into November. The fishing is going to be fantastic and I look forward to getting out on the bay this fall. If you are interested in a trip send me an email with some dates you have in mind and I can see if we can get you out for some great largemouth bass fishing on the Chesapeake Bay!
What an incredible May and June we had on the Upper Chesapeake Bay! The fish were a bit late in spawning and the grass took its sweet time to come up but once the post spawn fish and the grass arrived it was game on! The Susquehanna Flats have been producing some really good quality fish. Many types of baits have been working and the key is staying on top of the bait fish movement. I have been using top water baits such as spooks, Popping Baits, and Frogs. We also got into some really good Chatterbait and Spinnerbait Fish!
Some very nice fish up to 6 pounds have been caught and I do have a few days available yet this July and August, contact me for some dates if you are interested! The Smallmouth bite up in Upstate New York is also starting to turn on in a big way! I have been booking out into September and have a few select dates left for this year for some true trophy Smallmouth Bass Trips on the St Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. Let me know if you have some interest in booking a trip for some of these hard fighting fish! May is finally here and although April yielded some very good bass catches on the Chesapeake Bay, May is going to be even more special! We finally have some warm weather and the big girls are going to be showing up in familiar places again this year! The time for some huge Upper Bay Largemouth is now! The fish will be in the spawning areas and the flats. Reaction baits and soft plastics are the norm this time of year and the action is going to be heating up! I still have a few days in May available so book your trip today!
As I write this it is early Spring and it has been a cold start. April will be a great transition month for Largemouth Bass on the Chesapeake Bay. The fish are fat and hungry and this time of year you can run into some really good size fish. The pre spawn fishing can be some of most fun times of the year. Fish are going to be positioning themselves near the usual spawning flats and the big females will be moving up. Crankbaits and soft plastics are great this time of year. Once the spawn occurs you can still catch some nice size fish but you have to slow down a little bit. Often the water clarity is just a bit stained and it can be hard to sight fish but as long as you are around hard bottom with good habitat for them to spawn you will get bit! The spring time is a great time to book a trip on the Chesapeake Bay and I do have some dates available still. Call ahead to book your trip today!
With the cooler weather and water temperatures falling it is a great time to go fishing! I have been doing well out on Lake Ontario for trophy Smallmouth Bass. Fishing has been good for quality and I am seeing some big fish up to 6 1/2 pounds being caught.
The Chesapeake Bay fishing will continue to be good throughout the next few months and I have been out there a few times per week this month and the fish seem to be still very active. The Winter time bite is going to be happening pretty soon and that means some great fish catches once we find where they are wintered up. If you want to book a trip just contact me and let me know what dates you are looking for! It is still HOT! Both the weather and the bite! It is early October and the bass are still biting real well on the Chesapeake Bay. I had a number of trips last month and we managed to catch fish even though generally this time of year can be some of the toughest days to fish the Chesapeake Bay. With the shorter days and the cooler nights we should start to see a shift from the late summer patterns to more of the fall patterns. This can be a great time of the year to fish for giant Largemouth on the bay. They will be aggressively feeding now and fishing will continue to be good well into November and perhaps December, depending on what kind of fall we have.
As far as the Upstate New York bite for Smallmouth…. well I can tell you this, I have been spending a lot of time up there and have had days I was catching well over 150 fish with many over 5 pound and few pushing close to 7 pounds. The bite is on and will be until ice up. The best is yet to come! The fishing is heating up on the Chesapeake Bay and the summer time patterns are in full force. Some good Largemouth Bass action can be had on the Flats and North East River. The thick vegetation along with a good frog bite can mean some extreme topwater action! Hard cover like wood and docks is also a key factor and you should expect to get in on some good action with the right tide.
The Smallmouth Bass fishing action is awesome in Upstate New York right now! Huge Smallmouth can be found shallow and deep and anywhere in between. I have been doing well fishing shallow flats looking for cruising fish and have also been doing good fishing deep 25 plus feet of water with drop shots and tubes. I have a few days left if you are interested in booking a trip, send me an email or give me a call. We are into the heat of the summer on the Chesapeake Bay! I have a few dates available this month for guiding trips and the fishing is great! The bass are positioning themselves on both hard cover and the grass flats. Tide is important this time of year and being on the right type of structure at the right time is crucial when trying to put together a good bag of bass!
The frog bite and flipping bite is great at times and you can find floating matts and other type of structure to pitch at or throw a top-water frog on. Low tide is best for this technique and you will easily be able to see what targets to fish. The dock bite is also good in the North East River and some good bass are being caught on worms and jigs. The crank bait bite should also start to get really good on some off shore spots and laydowns. I have a few dates available in between fishing in Upstate New York, please send me an email if you would like to schedule a time to fish the Upper Chesapeake Bay! As far as the Smallmouth Bass fishing is concerned in Upstate New York it is time for the offshore bite to start up. The fish for the most part are done with the spawn and are now moving into their summer time patterns. Trophy fish can be caught a variety of ways and I look forward to this time of year. I have a few dates available for some trophy smallmouth fishing on Lake Ontario this month, please contact me for availability! |
