It is still HOT! Both the weather and the bite! It is early October and the bass are still biting real well on the Chesapeake Bay. I had a number of trips last month and we managed to catch fish even though generally this time of year can be some of the toughest days to fish the Chesapeake Bay. With the shorter days and the cooler nights we should start to see a shift from the late summer patterns to more of the fall patterns. This can be a great time of the year to fish for giant Largemouth on the bay. They will be aggressively feeding now and fishing will continue to be good well into November and perhaps December, depending on what kind of fall we have.
As far as the Upstate New York bite for Smallmouth…. well I can tell you this, I have been spending a lot of time up there and have had days I was catching well over 150 fish with many over 5 pound and few pushing close to 7 pounds. The bite is on and will be until ice up. The best is yet to come!
